Digital Media Remediation

Service Description

OIT offers remediation from industry-standard external vendors, at cost, for inaccessible digital resources including but not limited to audio and audiovisual media, slideshow presentations, and other electronic documents.

Service Details

  • Audio Description, or descriptive narration, describes visual components in media that are not otherwise explained auditorily. Audio description is necessary to ensure accessibility for people who are blind.
  • Captioning is audio-synchronized text alternative to speech and non-speech audio in media. Captioning is necessary to ensure accessibility for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Transcription is necessary to ensure accessibility for people who are deafblind.
  • Accessible Markup for static electronic documents—Google Docs, Slides, or Sheets; Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or Excel; or Portable Document Files (PDFs)—is necessary to ensure accessibility for people who are blind and use screen reading software, people with colorblindness, people with cognitive disabilities, and others who use adaptive technology or alternative access means.

This service is available to the following groups:

Charges and Fees

  • Audio Description
    $7.25–11.50 per video minute, depending on audio density
  • Transcription and Captioning
    $1.85 per video minute, with higher fees for expedited or rush turnaround
  • Document Remediation
    Cost and turnaround times are based on vendor assessment of the length and complexity of your document.
